Featuring Professional Guest Artists:

Chinese Painting Exhibit by Kuansoi (Christine) Kou

Live Guzheng Music by Shu-Fang Chen (Yisian)

Chinese Ballet by Yoomi Kim and Brandon Nguyen of the Atlanta Ballet

Imagine a traditional Chinese painting exhibit of blooming peonies, lucky carp, galloping horses, willowy bamboo, and more springing to life before your eyes through the movement of over eighty Chinese dancers.

Inspired by paintings by well-known artist Kuansoi (Christine) Kou, Atlanta Chinese Dance Company's sixteenth original Chinese dance production Chinese Painting in Motion does that and more.  Through the story of a Chinese painter who toils from obscurity to fame, the production captures the essence of classical Chinese art, dance, history, and culture. Performances also include two shorter Chinese folk dance collections "Chinese Ethnic Cultural Gathering" and "Xiamen Wedding."

For the first time ever, ACDC's professional guest artists will include dancers from the Atlanta Ballet as well as a Chinese painting exhibit by Kuansoi (Christine) Kou and live guzheng music by Shu-Fang Chen (Yisian).

ABOUT THE ATLANTA CHINESE DANCE COMPANY

ACDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the development, advancement, and appreciation of Chinese history and culture through the art of Chinese dance to metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.  Founded in 1991 by Hwee-Eng Y. Lee, the company currently trains over eighty dancers.  ACDC has presented fifteen original full-evening productions in theaters such as the Performing Arts Center at Gwinnett Center, Robert Ferst Center for the Arts, and Rialto Center for the Performing Arts as well as numerous community outreach performances throughout the metro Atlanta area.  Most notably, the company appeared in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and the “Chinese variation” of Atlanta Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Fabulous Fox Theater for eleven years.

This program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency - the National Endowment for the Arts.
